Bra läge, tråkigt hotell

Pretty Good - except for the inability to completely block out the midnight sun!

A group of us booked rooms in the Saga for 11 nights as we were playing in the European Bridge Championships being held in Tromso. I confidently told my friends in Australia that "certainly the hotel will block out the light - how else do they sleep?" - well i was wrong!! we tried pegging the curtains together, putting shoes and any objects we could find on the ledge to try and hold the curtains down, all to no avail. The light just streams in to the room - well all day and all night. It did make sleeping very difficult and i can't say we ever got used to it. The rest of the hotel was quite good. We had ordered a superior room that was quite reasonably sized by Norwegian standards (but no drawers in which to put your clothing), with a 3 seater couch, a desk and a chair. The breakfast range was also quite good. We were very disappointed to find that the advertising in all our rooms which said their was dinner available every night from Mon to Thurs wasn't actually available. Apparently only in Winter. I do think they should make that very clear in all the blurbs they have posted around in the room. The staff were quite friendly and helpful if we had a query. Free wifi a bonus - although that seems to be the norm in Scandinavia.

Went to Tromsø to stay for three days because I had exams to do at the university. The lobby looked modern and the receptionist was nice. I got a room in the upper floor. The first thing that I noticed was that the carpet in the hallway was worn out. The walls were yellow and the whole impression was rather shabby down the hallway. When I locked myself into my room I noticed that the walls were still yellow, but instead of carpet there was some kind of wooden hard flooring. Furniture was like taken straight from the 90s. The bed was soft and nice to sleep on and was probably the best part of the room. The room was lacking air-conditioner, which was a shame because I then had to have my window open. Outside there was a lot of noise, buses honking and the ever so loud sound of cruise ships engines. With AC I would be able to close the windows, but no. Another problem about the room is that there is no soundproofing between the rooms. When I was trying to sleep I could hear the consistency of my neighbors feces hitting the bottom of his toilet accompanied with wild trumpet songs from his premium part. It was rather annoying. Also, the doors on my floor were slamming all the time, waking me up every five minutes during the night. Bad. The bathroom looked modern, late 2000s. Complimentary shampoo and soap. I liked this. The bathroom was also equipped with a hairdryer. I am not a big fan of having to shower while standing in a bathtub. I'd say it'd be better if the hotel removed the bathtubs. The toilet paper was of shamefully bad quality. When you try to wipe your premium parts you're more likely to spread the dirt around than wiping it away. The info flyer in my room said that breakfast would end at 11:00. I met up at 10:20 and they were already tidying the breakfast away. Apparently breakfast lasted till 10:30. In other words, I had to go elsewhere to get my breakfast. Bad. The next day I woke up early enough for the breakfast that apparently ends whenever the staff feels like it. It had the basic ingredients for english breakfast and an OK amount of difference bread topping choices. The buns and loaf you could choose from though. Horrible. All the ones I tried were dry... The breakfast part is the least memorable thing about the hotel. At around 16:00 you can go down into the lobby and have free waffles. You have to fry them yourself, but waffle dough-thing is given for free. I think there should be more than one waffle iron there, because I feel it is awkward standing in line to fry the waffles... The cleanliness of the room was OK. Behind the nightstand there were several dust bunnies. The hotel WiFi was working well. 5 Mbps is just about sufficient. All in all I don't think the price of the hotel justifies the price. I will not stay here again unless I find a really good bargain.

I stayed for a week on business and found the hotel satisfactory. Breakfast is adequate if not sporting a great selection. What was on offer I found to be tasty. Breakfast room is nice. I stayed in a single room which was quite small, with a single bad. Nice bathroom and shower. WiFi is free. Location is good, it's close to both land based and ship connections.
